How it works
The Full Brain method, made for children
AINSQ Kids Academy uses the same six-step lesson template as AINSQ Academy. The method is built into every lesson page, so no step is ever skipped.
The six steps
Here is how they play out in the KS2 lesson on equivalent fractions.
Step 1
Hook — Wonder why it matters
A short story, puzzle or real-life moment that gives the topic a reason to exist.
Example: “Maya ate half a chocolate bar. Leo ate 4/8. Who ate more?”
Step 2
Picture — See it
A diagram, model or bar drawn on the page, so the idea is seen before it is explained.
Example: Four bars the same length, cut into 2, 4, 6 and 8 pieces, with the same amount shaded.
Step 3
Logic — Understand how it works
The structured explanation, with key words and a worked example done step by step.
Example: Key words — numerator, denominator — and a worked example: 3/4 = ?/12.
Step 4
Do — Have a go
Guided practice with pencil and paper or objects at home — small steps, in order.
Example: Draw and shade your own fraction bars, then answer the hook question.
Step 5
Recall — Remember it
A quiz with instant feedback and an explanation for every answer, right or wrong.
Example: Five quick questions. Each one shows why the answer is right, straight away.
Step 6
Reflect — Link it to your world
One question that connects the idea to the child's own life, saved to their notebook.
Example: “A recipe needs 1/2 a cup of milk, but you only have a 1/4 cup. What would you do?”
